Reuters Regrets the Death of Lord McGregor

London, 11 November - Reuters expressed deep regret at the death yesterday of Lord McGregor of Durris who was elected Chairman of the Reuters Founders Share Company in 1987 and had been a Reuter Trustee since 1984.

Peter Job, Reuters Chief Executive, said: "As Chairman of the Trustees, Lord McGregor took the issue of Reuters independence to his heart and was tireless in his defence of the impartiality and truthfulness for which Reuters has always stood."

The Reuters Founders Share Company was set up in 1984 to safeguard the neutrality and independence of Reuters. The Reuter Trustees, as directors of the Reuters Founders Share Company, have the power to prevent any group or individual gaining a controlling share of the company. They have a duty to ensure that the Reuter Trust Principles are observed.
