Thomson Prometric to Provide Access to Testing on Behalf of the Department of Defense

September 13, 2006 at 9:03 AM EDT

BALTIMORE, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Thomson Prometric, the global leader in assessment services, and part of the Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC), today announced an agreement with Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) that allows DANTES Test Control Officers the ability to provide on-site Computer Based Testing at Department of Defense (DoD) installations. These on-site testing services providing access to IT certifications are now available to all eligible DoD service members, DoD civilians and contractors.

While this agreement allows Thomson Prometric to establish a computer-based test center on-base, immediate availability of testing is also possible at off-base test centers. Currently, Thomson Prometric has a testing center within 100 miles of the vast majority of DoD installations. The increased accessibility to required tests will allow Test Control officers to better assist DoD employees in meeting compliance with Department of Defense Directive 8570 which mandates commercial certifications for personnel performing IT Security Functions. Providing these services off-base reduces the necessary investment and oversight of that military installation.

"We look forward to continuing our efforts with DANTES to support the off-duty, voluntary education programs of the Department of Defense," said Ray Kelly, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing, Thomson Prometric. "Helping government organizations successfully administer licensure programs is a core function of our business."

In addition, this agreement complements an existing exclusive agreement with Thomson Prometric which provides DANTES with the DSST college credit exams allowing DoD employees the ability to receive college credit by testing out of courses in a multitude of fields. In addition to the DSST exams, this agreement allows for on-site delivery of certification and licensure testing for all of our programs including CompTIA, Microsoft, Oracle, Linux, Cisco Systems, and many others.

Dr. Jeffrey P. Cropsey, Director for DANTES said the following "We are pleased to build upon our existing relationship with Thomson Prometric to support the need for IT certification exams within the Department of Defense. The expertise these exams represent is critical to our Nation's defense."
